CA 158 by Grant Lake, Mono County, CA, 10/22/2009
While traveling along June Lake Loop Road (CA 158) one October morning, I spotted this diagonal band of golden aspens high on a hillside above Grant Lake in the Eastern Sierra. This is in the eastern foothills of Mt. Lewis and Parker Peak, at about 7,300 feet above sea level. The trees were gleaming in the sunlight, and I was especially drawn to the slightly reddish trees I placed near the center of the composition. This area is famous for its autumn color, made all the more remarkable by how it contrasts with the surrounding rugged high desert shrubs.
