Cathedral Rock, Last Sunlight

Red Rock Crossing, Sedona, AZ, 12/16/2009

After several days of snow landscape photography at the Grand Canyon, I drove down to Sedona and arrived at the Red Rock Crossing park just in time to witness this late afternoon light on Cathedral Rock. Sedona doesn't receive nearly as much snow as the area around the Grand Canyon. On my previous visits to Red Rock Crossing, the Oak Creek shore was lined with photographers hoping to capture the last sunlight on the red rocks. For some reason on this particular day, I was the only person there. For a moment I worried that I was waiting at the wrong spot. After the pretty cirrus clouds moved into place while the sunlight cast a golden glow on the rocks, I stopped worrying! Apparently Cathedral Rock got its name because of its spires, which remind people of a cathedral. The beautiful scenery and slightly damp cool air make the canyons around Oak Creek refreshing and delightful places to visit.
