Mt. Hamilton Road, Joseph D. Grant County Park, Santa Clara County, CA, 3/17/2015
On March 17th one year, in the spirit of St. Patrick's Day, I located the greenest landscape imaginable. Looking southwest from Mt. Hamilton Road in Joseph D. Grant County Park near San Jose, here is a beautiful grove of oak trees on grass-covered hills. Here in late winter and early spring, the new oak leaves are thin and translucent to sunlight, and the grass is rich green, making this the ideal time of year for such a photograph. A few months later, the leaves will thicken and darken, and the grass will die and turn tan. The oak woodland community at Grant Park is typical of California and includes such species as the Blue, Black, Live, and Valley Oaks.
