Silver Lake, from CA 158, Mono County, CA, 10/23/2009
At sunrise the morning of this photograph, I was at the south shore of Mono Lake, along with about 50 other photographers. I wasn't inspired by the conditions and made no photographs. But I did speak with some of the other people who were intrigued by my large format film equipment; they all had digital cameras. One of the photographers was nice enough to describe to me the autumn scene you see here. After I gave up at Mono Lake I headed south into the Sierra to Silver Lake, immediately finding the location she described. This scene is at about 7,220 feet above sea level. I readied my camera and waited for the sun to illuminate the golden aspens, making this exposure before the foothills of Reversed Peak behind the trees lit up. I also caught a fisherman apparently enjoying his own reflection.
