Waterfalls
A waterfall occurs where water in a stream rapidly descends in elevation as it flows over a steep region or cliff. As a river travels over resistant bedrock erosion happens slowly, while downstream the erosion occurs more rapidly. Waterfalls usually form when a river is young and the water channel is narrow and deep. People are drawn to waterfalls for a variety of reasons. They often have aesthetic qualities to them, and when we see something we perceive as beautiful we tend to be happier. The sound that waterfalls make and the constant motion of the water have a relaxing effect on us. There's something both wild and peaceful about waterfalls with their soothing sounds, cool water, and the possibility for sensual swimming! Many stories describe magical creatures that claim waterfalls for their homes. Large waterfalls display awesome power, and create waves of refreshing mist!
