Amid the Earth and Sky

Washburn Trail, Joseph D. Grant County Park, Santa Clara County, CA, 3/2/2006

Observing an attractive mix of clouds in the sky on this late winter day, I traveled to Joseph Grant County Park hoping to make some beautiful photos of pastoral scenes. This time of year the park is especially lovely when its hillsides are covered with lush green grass. I'll never forget how excited and pleased I was with the perfection of the weather and lighting that greeted me that day; everywhere I turned I saw paradise! With great fun and ease I brought home a number of fine photographs, exactly the kind I had hoped for. This lone graceful dormant oak caught my eye, with its noble silhouette above the hills. For me the tree represents our place in this magnificent world, living as we do amid the earth and sky. The 9,560 acre Grant Park is located in Halls Valley, just east of San Jose, CA.
